Can You Use Instant Rice in Chicken Broccoli Casserole
Source: https://recipes.instantpot.com/recipe/5-ingredient-instant-pot-cheesy-chicken-broccoli-and-rice/
Yummy and simple enough for kids. BUT. It needs more broth. Maybe a total of 2 cups would've done it. I also think it works better to put the chicken in first, after spraying the pot, so that it stays more moist.
Simple enough to throw together when you've a migraine. Followed suggestion to add more broth, worked well.
If you don't want to use the chicken thighs can you just add another chicken breast?
Works well with the extra broth suggestion. Just so you know, although it is quite tasty, it comes out looking like prison slop.
I like this recipe because it's easy. I added minced onions, cayenne pepper and hot curry powder. I also added the extra broth but thought it was a little too moist. I substituted chicken breast for drumsticks and cooked it for 20 minutes instead of 10. It was actually quite tasty!!!
…continued I also added minced garlic and onion powder. I seasoned the chicken with seasoned salt.
Just got my Instant Pot and used the app to see if I could make anything right away. Came across this recipe pretty quickly and saw i had everything needed to make it.
This recipe really is super easy and quick, best thing was my family loved it! Big hit in our house and will be making again and again!
Tried to cook this used the directions to a T and got the burn message… dinner was a bust
Sooooo easy and delicious!! Had to cook for an extra couple mins because the rice wasn't to our liking! Tastes sooo good though!!
Broccoli melts into the rice Yum!
Practical and Delicious. Perfect for children
Rice was not cooked completly. Bottom of pot had burnt rice. Seems like recipie needed more broth. First meal with the pot. Followed directions.
Absolutely terrible. Burned multiple times and tries. Not worth trying this.
I didn't follow directions entirely. I layered and it came out great. Water, chicken, rice, (i did broccoli and cheese soup), and frozen broccoli. Did not stir until it was completed.
Husband said it turned out bland so next time ill try broth and see if that adds flavor. I enjoyed it. Added garlic powder and shake cheese in my own bowl and it was even better! Probably would have been amazing with some extra shredded cheese!
Quick Meal. Kids love it. Very little prep.
Got the burn message. Removed from pot, now finishing in the oven.
Easy and very good taste !
Im confused. It says 35 minutes to cook, but the recipe says 10 minutes.
And what setting is it? Pressure Cook? Poultry? Rice?
Ok, figured it all out.
Rice turned out perfectly and the meal was delicious.
I used 2 cups of broth and added a bit of butter.
So how long do you cook? 10 or 30 minutes?
I made this recipe again. The first time, I agree it needed more broth and it also left some rice stuck to the bottom. This time around, I used olive oil to coat the instapot insert instead of spraying it. Put chicken down first, then broccoli, rice and added 2 cups of broth. Also added mushrooms and didn't stir until after it finished cooking. This was by far the BEST way to cook this recipe!
Super easy and tasty! Next time I will season the chicken and add a little more rice.
Pressure cook for 10 minutes but the total recipe takes around 35 minutes.
This recipe just kept burning, I had to add a lot more water!!
Apparently the trick to avoid "burn" is to really coat the bottom with non stick spray or oil of some kind.
Cooked for 35 min…its easy and tasty. Glad I seasoned the chicken. Ita not the most pretty dish, but hearty on a cold winter's day.
I love this review section. I check it before trying to make anything from here. Thank you all for undoubtedly saving me from burning my family's dinner, lol.
First real meal with IP
Changed based on recommendation:
32 oz Chix Broth (1 box)
16 oz Broccoli Flowerets
40 oz bag of chic thigs (cut up)
3 cups rice (I used calrose)
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1/4 stick butter
2 tbsp Season-all (to season chix)
1/4 cup olive oil
Cut up the chix, put in a bag with olive oil and season-all, let sit a few mins.
Spray and oil bottom and sides of IP.
Pour broth, salt and pepper into IP, add chix then rice then broccoli.
Cook on high pressure, rele add cheese.
I sauted a couple onions in coconut oil before adding the other ingrediants. I also used brown rice instead of white rice. Came out great.
I added some chopped onion and garlic. That was all that was missing to the recipe.
It was delicious! I added extra broth which helped from the rice getting burned.
Can't seem to avoid burning with this darn thing! Will keep trying but getting a wee bit frustrating 🙁
Question…. can this recipe be doubled in a 6qt Instant Pot?
So i just made this and it turned out great!!! I did change some things up as well. I used 2 1/2 cups of broth and i added garlic and onions as well, i also season the chicken before. Did not have any issues with burning or rice not being done.
Just made it and turned out great! These comments are helpful! I used some of the tips such as adding more broth and doing oil at bottom of pot.
Super easy. Added 5 minutes on and rice perfect. Used brown rice.
Funny thing, my son didnt complain about brocolli cooking until I vented it. And then he said, "whoa, that thing really makes brocolli smell like a fart…."
Ha! Boys.
My first recipe in 8qt IP. Upped recipe to 6persons. Did not burn, rice was overcooked, turned to green mush when was stirred in. Tasted bland, needed more cheese.
Made this tonight! It was very good. It was also my first time to use my new IP. I did take into account all of the comments. So I added onion and garlic and sauteed first. Then added rice, broth, chicken, and broccoli. Changed the setting to Pressure Cook for 10 min. It took it awhile to get to the temperature because it said 'ON' for the longest time then once the desired temp was reached it started the 10 min countdown. Otherwise, very tasty and everyone at my house liked it!
First time using the Instant Pot. I used 2 cups of chicken broth. Seasoned the chicken with salt pepper, garlic powder and poultry seasoning. Used an 8 oz package of the cheddar cheese. Yummy!
This was delicious! I browned onion, garlic and chicken first, seasoned it with lemmon pepper. Used jasmine rice! Really good!
My first IP experience, glad for all the suggestions! I seasoned the chicken with sage, thyme, garlic salt, & pepper, then sauteed onions & garlic with the chicken. I added 2 cups of broth with the rice & broccoli. I didn't mix it up & the rice was still hard after 10 minutes. I put it back on for 5 minutes, & it burnt a little on the bottom. So, next time I won't layer, I'll mix it up. It ended up to be a very tasty dish!
I used 2 1/2 cups of broth and sprayed my inner pot reeeeeealllyyy well! It turned out great and didnt need extra time to cook. Rice came out perfectly!
Very quick and easy… kind of bland. Added some extra spices to kick it up a bit
Can I use frozen chicken?
Im confused. Do i only cook it for 10 minutes?
LOVE this recipe!! Soo good! Will definitely be making this again! …i did get the burn notice so i shut it off and added a tad more liquid and restarted it for the time left. Worked out great
I just made this for dinner, and it was delicious! Per other comments, I used more chicken broth (about 3 cups) and I added extra seasoning (more salt & pepper, plus garlic and onion powders). I also added a tablespoon of sour cream and parmesan cheese. Even before the sour cream, it was surprisingly creamy! And the rice was cooked perfectly.
Really good. I think I'd want some more sharp cheddar in to give it more "twang" (?) but I really enjoyed it. It was very easy for me to make.
Just did this, didnt read reviews first, did have a little burn on bottom, but no issue…family and i think it turned out great…i would use more stock next time though
Super easy to make but very bland
I cut 3 boneless skinless chicken breast into 1 inch cubes covered them lightly with olive oil and sprinkled Seasonal All on top of them. I also used three cups of chicken broth. It was a tiny bit thin when I took the lid off but it was the perfect consistency once we dished it and it cooled off enough to eat. Next time I'm going to try seasoning it with lemon pepper and see how it comes out and maybe add a little bit of onion too.
Learned the hard way it can take a while for the pot to come up to pressure. For sure need to season the chicken somewhat but otherwise delicious.
I added 3 cups of the chicken broth, it was a little thin when I took the lid off but by the time it cooled it was a perfect consistency. I used chicken breast instead of thighs but still cut them into 1-inch cubes.I also put a little olive oil on the chicken and seasoned it with Season All before putting it in the ip. Next time I'm going to try adding some sauteed onions and seasoning the chicken with lemon pepper seasoning. It was a delicious meal, quick and easy. My family loved it!
Super easy and tasty. Worked exactly as written.
Sticks to instapot and makes burn feature appear on screen. Highly disappointed especially after using specific directions. Really wanted to try this out
I can bot say enough! I made it wiyg breasts sauteed onions and garlic. Huge hit!!!! Yummmmmmm
Ok. Very Easy. I wouldn't make it to impress someone.
Simple and delicious. We did add a can of Campbells Cheddar Cheese soup and my family absolutely loved it!
We got the burn message about 7 minutes into the pressure increasing. We released the pressure and added more liquid and stirred everything together. After that we had no more trouble with it sticking or getting a burn message.
It burned before coming up to pressure. I added extra seasoning and it was still a bland, mushy, glob of yuck. If I could leave no stars I would.
Excellent dish (OK, it may not win any presentation awards but my family loved it nonetheless).
I cubed 4 chicken breasts and marinated them in olive oil and McCormicks Perfect Pinch Italian seasoning – for a few hours. I also used brown rice instead of white and added a tad more rice and brocolli then called for, simply because of the extra chicken. I used 2 3/4 cups of chix broth.
I cooked it for 23 minutes then stirred in cheese and a little sour cream. Done!
I cut the broccoli in half and doubled the cheese. My son loves it but its not something id make a lot. It was a quick meal.
Gray and mushy, although flavor was OK. Kids wouldn't eat it.
Very mushy, but ok in taste. Not sure I'll make it again. I have leftovers but can't imagine how it would taste heated up. Probably very mushy – x10!
Oh my goodness! This was amazing! I added 2 cups broth. I've been "burned" too many times by the burn message. Safe. Hubby and 25yr son loved it.
The recipe was great! I added about 3 cups of the broth just to make sure all of the ingredients were covered by the broth. We love this recipe! And will be trying it again.
I made it exactly like the recipe. My 3 year old even ate it! It was very good & easy!
Mine kept saying "burn" while making this recipe… how do you get it to not say that?
Turned out amazing!! I changed the amount of broth to 2 cups, the rice to 1 1/4 cup, and the cheese to 2 cups. My hubby had seconds!!
I also had to end up using 2 cups of broth because I kept getting the "burn" message. I also ended up using the low pressure setting, so it finally started the countdown to cooking! Others's suggestions on using different spices was helpful. Poultry seasoning plus a can of cream of mushroom soup helped with the flavor. Didn't look appetizing but it was really good!
Followed recipe for 2 servings. Used brown rice and cooked for 15 min. It was very watery. Not sure why… I used the exact amount of chicken broth….
The main page says 35 minutes cook time. Then the actual recipe says pressure cook on high 10 minutes. We followed the recipe and ten minutes was not enough and the dish not turn out. I might try it again disregaed the instructions but use the same ingredients.
First meal in our IP and it was really good. I did go off of other people's comments and sauteed a dice onion and some fresh garlic. I also seasoned my cubed chicken beforehand as well. The broccoli did turn to mush afterwards and it did resemble baby food, as my husband would say, but the overall taste was really good.
Used 1 1/4 cup of broth with 4 oz of cream of chicken as people stated there wasn't much taste. And of course added more than 4oz of cheese.
Easy beginner meal as its a dump and go recipe
poor instructions
Mixed wild rice blend and basmati.
Add garlic
More chese and sub 1/4 cup galf n half.
Needed a little longer but was good
Super yummy!! Not a veggie fan and wouldnt even know there was broccoli!!
Easy and delicious!
Exactly what you expect
Easy and delicious! Definitely again
Boring and mushy! Even if i added seasoning the mushy rice was not good. Sorry!
Easy but not tasty. Would not make again. Even tried adding Cajun spice and onions, garlic.
Good comfort food. I added some turmeric to make the rice a lovely yellow the second time I made it. More visually appealing, I think. Avoid stirring too much when adding the cheese after everything is cooked. Otherwise it will turn into a big mushy blob.
Could also use a little more flavor. It's a lttle bland if you follow the recipe exactly. Next time I'll try some onion and garlic per the recommendations of other reviewers. That should be a big improvement!
I agree it was not super flavorful, but i had my chicken marinating in italian dressing for twi days and it gave it a nice kick. Nice quick meal!! I'll definitely make it again!!!
I used homemade bone broth and then added half a cup of quinoa and a half a cup of brown rice. I think next time i'll use the powdered chicken bouillon instead of the salt just to add a bit of a flavor pop and I like the idea of the garlic and onion next time. Fam loved it!
I was so impressed with how fast this came together! I kinda felt like this was a base recipe that needed to be added to. I added a little over 2 cups liquid, 1 cup roughly cut mushrooms, cumin, red pepper flakes, chili powder, diced onion and chopped garlic. It was yummy!
If I double the recipe how long do I cook it for?
Followed it to a T and kept getting burnt message. Very bland
Teens hated it. I added onions and seasoning to make it better but it was atill
Teen: "Mom this is food they serve in prison." It wasn't that bad, but it was a gloppy mess and I won't make it again. Instant Pot should have only the best recipes on here!
Excellent and quick!!! Will make again for sure!!
Quick and easy! Love it
Cooked 10 mins and released pressure as directed. Poured in cheese and stirred… chicken was raw!!! Set for 10 more minutes, now the burn indicator light is on. Second failed recipe from this site. Very frustrating. Can't understand the love for the IP!
Pressure on what level. Directions in this app are lacking for several reciped
Mmmmmmm….chicken slop.
Pretty bland base recipe, but easy to dress up with some SPG and homemade smoked turkey broth. I also seasoned and sauted the chicken first.
Made in an 8 qt. It took forever to pre-heat and then "burn" eas on display. It also released the pressure on its own. It never even showed the minutes. I opened it up, and yep the bottom was burned. Looked ay instructions for Instant Pot. It says you only put in 1.5 cups broth. Really needed 3 cups!
Note to self – READ the reviews first! Was my first attempt at IP, got burnt message, tried to repair based on recommebdatjons. Still got burnt message! Tomorrow's another day!
Ive just checked the user manual. No less than 18 oz of liquid should be used when pressure cooking with the ip. This recipe called for 1 1/2 c broth (that's 12 oz). No wonder we were all getting the burnt message!
32 ounces of chicken broth and a cup and three fourths of jasmine rice. Also, about 2 chopped cloves of garlic. 1 cup of amerocan cheese.
Same everything else… maybe slightly more salt and pepper.
Pretty darn good!
Made this for my family tonight. Make sure you add at least 1/2 cup extra of broth. Otherwise you will get BURN ALERT!!!
Quick and easy.
2/9/19 Chicken Broth is NOT 32 ounces as stated! 1 1/2 cups = 12 ounces! Due to the fact I was distracted while putting this recipe together…I poured in the whole carton of organic chicken broth (32 oz)…so turned out NOT like picture….but super yummy! Will make again….but next time 2 c broth (16 oz) as IP requires a minimum of 16 oz when using in pressure cook mode. Note other comments stated sticking/burn problems when they used 12 oz broth.
It was super deiscious but a little mushy.
My family loved it!
Awesome and easy.
Wanted to cook something fast with rice and found this recipe when I typed in rice in the search. I had chicken and broccoli in the kitchen so I gave it a shot. This was super easy to prep and it tastes cheesy!
Made 1/2 of the recipe. Cooked everything except chicken and broccoli for 20 minutes, then added leftover precooked rotisserie chicken and fresh broccoli and cooked for 2 minutes. Yummy!
Followed the instructions exactly with an Instant Pot Ultra 10-in-1. Came out as excepted. Not the most tasty dish ever – but, fine in a pinch.
Easy to make but not a lot of flavor. My husband didnt cate for it.
Very easy to make. Makes enough for a large container when you're in a hurry and need lunch. The meal is Hearty for a busy day. I recommend marinating the chicken in corn starch and soy sauce if you want a little more asian flavor. Cut the salt from the recipe and use sodium free chicken broth if you marinate the chicken.
Husband liked it but is going to save a little and put his cajun seasoning on it. After reading reviews, I added 2 1/2 cups of broth. It made it a little runny but ok. Also I added thyme, garlic salt, and Italian seasoning as well as chopped onion and garlic. We used Muenster cheese.
Good at first. About the 5th bite turns bland.
It tasted fine but I kept getting a burn notice when I tried to pressure cook it.
Dear God, this was abysmal. A textural disaster so offensive evem cheese couldn't save it. My toddler wouldn't even eat it.
Very simple and basic recipe. Added extra cheese for a little more flavor
Terrible mush. The burn icon kept appearing. Chicken was rubbery and over cooked while the rice was super mushy. Bottom of pan was totally burnt.
Great supper dish, quick and easy. I cook mine a minute longer and no issues at all. A go to favourite for me!!
After reading the reviews, we decided to cook our rice on stovetop and add after the cheese. It was sorta bland. I would probably add mushrooms or something to spruce it up.
First time trying this. I read reviews first, so I decided to alter the recipe a little. My changes were the following, I cubed 2 large chicken breasts. I used 2 cups better than chicken bouillon, 1 1/4 cups white rice. I added 1 bag frozen chopped broccoli (12 ounces), 1 tablespoon minced garlic, 1/4 of an onion chopped. I did not saute the onions and garlic first. I did spray pot with cooking spray. Cooked at high pressure for 12 minutes. After quick release, it did look like it was going to be runny, but after stirring in cheese it thickened right up. The broccoli did not completely break down. Flavors were good, chicken cooked perfect. I will make this again.
Followed the instruction. Burned the bottom of the pot insert. If i make it again i will increase the chicken broth. All in all it was ok but a little bland.
Mushy when made as directed. Will maybe try again.
Need at least 2 cups of chicken broth – still got the burn notice. I added 12 ounces of sliced baby bella mushrooms and 6 cloves of minced garlic – it was a bit "mushy" but had great flavor – next time I'll probably add a bit more garlic. . .
Just tried to make it. Kept burning. Transferred to the stove.
Delicious! No changes required but use trivets if you have them to avoid burning chicken. Start with adding broth, rice and spices to pot; Add first trivet and layer with chicken; add a veggie trivet on top of chicken with broccoli (if you have one).
I used turkey meat the kids did not notice!! I also used a tomato chicken broth instead of plain chicken broth! Yummmm
DON'T MAKE IT!!!
Kept burning even after adding more liquid. Super mushy rice that was stll undercooked. Huge waste of time and money.
I am not sure if I missed a step or didnt add enough liquid bit during the cooking process "burn" came up on my machine. It kept cooking but shen it was done the rice was a littl hard. The rest of it tastes good, will try again and see if the rice cooks better.
It's a good recipe, with a few modifications. I read the other reviews before making this dish. Many complained that, as written, they got burn notices on their IPs. The salt and pepper called for is not enough for this recipe, hence why people think it's bland. I used 2 cups of stock, some onion, garlic powder, light salt, and pepper to season. When it was done, I added the cheese and then seasoned to taste with salt and pepper. It was a very falvorful meal, definitely one I'd make again!
Excellent. We added some curry to the recipe but could have added more. Overall delicious. A total repeat.
Cooking spray is not in the ingredients list.
Cooking spray isn't an ingredient but it is used to prevent sticking. It is recommended to read both ingredients and instructions fully to ensure all items that are used to prepare the dish are on hand.
Not my favorite
Made this today. I really like it! After reading reviews, i opted for 3 cups of broth since the manufacture' s investigations say to always use 3 cups of liquid in my 8 quart IP. It came out perfect. No burn notice. The rice was sticky but i like it that way. I also just used the rice i had on hand not a long grain. I am sure that makes a difference. This is going into my favorite list.
Very bland.
Following others who have said that the recipe is bland I added my own favorite seasonings and it was perfect. Although it looked like school cafeteria food it was delicious!
What i dont understand is it says 35 min cook time but then instructs us to cook for 10 mins where in the other 25 min. Did i miss something if anyone knows could you tell me this is only the second time using the instant pot still learning how to use this thing
My family love this and have asked for it twice this week. I season to our tastes and use chicken stock.
I used 2 cups of chicken bone broth and added another cup of water after everything was in the pot to make sure the rice was covered in the 8 quart. Then I added a cup of previously cooked rice at the end with the cheese. I tossed the chicken with poultry seasoning and fresh thyme and rosemary and added Herbes de Provence to the pot before the extra water. It tasted good, but it was a little mushy.
I doubled the recipe (2 cups rice; 4 cups broth; etc.) and added tons of spice (rosemary, thyme, lemon pepper, garlic…) and set for 20mins. It was bland chicken grits. Added a ton of mango garlic ghost pepper sauce to actually givebit flavor. Making each ingredient separately would be much tastier and not like bland chicken grits. Enjoy!
This is a big hit with my 6 year old. I added a bit more salt, Italian seasoning, and garlic.
Lame. Followed instructions, got a burn notice and the rice was screwed.
Great simple meal. With previous reviews saying it was somewhat bland, I added fresh garlic.
I do recommend preparing the chicken before adding it as I found the rice lost its texture and became mush.
Would definitely make it again.
It was another hit my 19 year old loves the instant Pot
Made it tonight and everyone loved it. Came out alittle mushy, but overall it was yummy!
We did a lot different than the recipe, and just used the recipe as a guide. We put a whole quart of chicken broth. Thank goodness because it came out perfect. I used garlic, lemon pepper, seasoning salt, mrs. dash and extra sharp cheddar to taste. Yummy
Added a can of cream of mushroom soup and what someone recommended 2 cups of chicken broth. Also added garlic. Turned out well after adding cheese was like a casserole consistancy.
Used the trivet and it worked great. Added mushrooms and additional spices and its awesome. Like other reviews it is a but mushy but we didn't mind. Recommend it to others to try.
Help! Says 35 mins cookimg but recipe says 10 mins.
Hi Jynb78,
They are both correct. The cook time 35 minutes is overall time that can include sauteing, pressurizing, and inputted cooking time. 10 minutes is what needs to be inputed on the program and doesn't include all the other times mentioned in the overall recipe.
Some recipes have multiple steps white multiple programs used. The cooking time being different than the individual program time is normal.
Hi SpanishjDawg,
Three areas to watch for when making this dish. Use nonstick spray, rinse off the rice and stir in the cut up chicken. If the chicken inst steered in the weight can trap some rice against the hot bottom and start to burn.
Only good for burning your dinner, never got the pot to start pressurizing and i ended up with a brick of food
If you are using an 8 quart you will need to add a little more water to account for the minimum liquid requirements of the 8 quart.
Easy enough – no burning issues. Broccoli was too mushy – may try with asparagus next time. Definitely bland though – will add a ton more seasonings
No flavor. Rice burned. 🙁
As campground host we need
Sorry lost signal on last attempt. As campground host we need quick and easy meals. The local grocery store had chicken thighs on sale this weekend. I have brown rice with me,
I'm learning to like this IP!
This was very good but next time ill just cook the whole thing on the rice button on my VIVA IP because the rice cooked up to a mush. The taste was great tho!
I actually made it x3. I added poultry seasoning all over the chicken, added some granulated garlic and a little accent and pepper. So i used 4 1/2c. Chicken broth all my seasonings mentioned, a bag of frozen chicken thighs from walmart, 2 bags of frozen mini brocc. florettes and 2-2c. Shredded sharp cheddar and it filled up my 6qt IP. Shouldve only doubled it instead of tripled. Way too much!! Lol
This dish was fast and easy to prepare. It was gobbled up in seconds, and I know it will become a staple in our house. Very quick and healthy, too.
Recipe didn't work, at all. Never came to pressure, and looks like the same issues were experienced by most other people here.
The intant pot i got doesnt have pressure cook
Hi Oldbiscuit,
This recipe requires an Instant Pot Multi-Use Pressure Cooker.
Some models will have a button called "Manual" which is the same as pressure cook.
If your model doesn't have a steam release you may have purchased our Multicooker which is a Multi functional slow cooker.
Please take a look at our product page to know which product you have:
https://instantpot.com/
Family did not like this. There was not much flavor and it was a mushy mess.
Very quick and easy! Delicious! Note: If you dont have broth and substitue water then add a little more salt.
I used 2 choped up chicken breasts , and I used quinoa instead of rice. I disnt have chedar but I had a mild chedar /jack chese mix. I had chicken bone broth.
It came out great!
I have the the Wifi 6 quart.
It was very quick and easy for my first recipie to try!
Made this tonight as my first dish. I have the 8qt. Was really good. Used exactly what the recipe called for. Used chicken broth and used three chicken breasts. I also added my own spices once it was done! Will make again!
Made it tonight! Added some garlic and thyme with a little bit of red pepper flakes and when i added the cheese i added a small amount of worcestershire sauce. Awesome! Came out perfect.
Made sith brown rice so needed an extra 5 minutes. And needed a little extra salt. But was really yummy!
This was my first time using an Instapot. I have an 8qt so I doubled the recipe. I have 5 people, including 3 20 year old men so I could have tripled it! The rice was a little mushy and stuck to the bottom, but I forgot to spray the bottom. I added garlic salt and Worcestershire sauce with the cheese. Everyone liked it despite it being a little mushy. I will make again.
Rice was overcooked and starting to burn. You definitely need to add way more seasoning, it was very bland.
With adjustments it could be very good.
I used roasted chicken instead of fresh, also used precooked rice and onion soup instead of chicken stock cooking for 7 minutes instead of 10, was very good.
Y'all conplaining about a recipe being too bland and whatnot need to use your common sense when it comes to spices! If the recipe looks inadequately seasoned for your tastes, then modify it. But don't go knocking it. For my part, I added way more spices than what was called for and I was so happy. I also added a can of cream of chicken soup because I wasn't about to be burning my dinner. Came out super. It's definitely comfort food and not fancy, nor super nutritious, what with all the cheese.
The recipe says cook for 35 min but i see it also says 10min help im confused
I cant see the receipe
Hi Fioreperrone,
Use the tabs at the bottom to switch between ingredients and the recipe.
Good and easy but definitely recommend adding more salt and pepper than called for. it did taste a little bland with the amount the amount called for but if you add more, it's much better
35 minute cook time worked well for me. I used frozen brocolli and half frozen chicken thighs and it was done. Some rice lightly burned to the bottom. Tastes ok but not sure if I'll try it again.
I read th comments before trying it, amd i wish i had listened. It burnt before even getting to build the pressure amd then i ended up having to make it on the stove. I wont be making it again. Als, if you intend on trying it, definetly add your own seasoning.
I tried this and loved it. My family loves it as well. Very easy to make.
My first recipe with my Instapot, did turn out a tad mushy but I used most of a 32oz thing of broth. Taste wise it is incredible. My roommate got a spice rack so I used a mix of oregano, paprika, red pepper flakes and a dash of some cajun spices along with zesty herd for the chicken. Added some Recipe Secret Onion for taste. Would recommend!
Bland. So bland. So boring.
This was my 1st meal in my Instant Pot. I forgot to spray the bottom, but I did spray the sides. 10 min was the perfect time. The rice did not burn nor stick to the bottom. I knew it would be bland with those amounts of salt & pepper, but to me, that's a meal that is heart-healthy. Since I knew that wouldn't be enough flavor, I used sea salt & upped it to 1 tsp, added 1 tsp. celery salt, 1 tsp poultry seasoning, & 1 tsp of smoked paprika. It tasted great.
I added curry, onion, mustard, and garlic. Improved the overall flavour.
Made this as an easy first recipe to test out my instant pot and absolutely loved it!
My husband and i loved it. Will make it again. It came out perfect.
I used brown rice rather than white and cooked it for 15 minutes rather than 10. Next time i will try less broth, because it came out with the consistancy of a stew rather than fluffy rice. But the flavor was great, i added half a tablespoon of minsed garlic.
This was my first recipe and it turned out great, the whole family loved it.
A little too much broth, used Thai chicken broth.
Added a tablespoon of garlic, and added chili pepper spice.
This would've been great, but my rice was burned
Does the chicken cook in 10 minutes?
First time using…timer down to 5 minutes. Not sure how it'll turn out, also not sure I programmed it correctly. I tried manual first, but couldn't figure out how to change pressure. Ended up re-reading directions then selecting Meat/Stew program set to "More" for 10 minutes. I guess I'll figure out this contraption soon…hopefully! Will definitely be going over the owners manual one or two more times. I'm extremely technical, so I get distressed if I can't see something in a step-by-step format.
This was quick & easy but tasteless even thoufh i added some other spices. Next will cook the broccoli by itself as to much make it so mushy.
Yes! Very good. My suggestions are – dont be afraid of over seasoning, souble the amount of cheese becauae who wouldnt want more cheese?! And top with crispy bacon.
Delicous! Easy to make. Perfect.
Simple to make
Very simple and very good a little bit plain but some spaces fix that when I was at in the cheese, I think I made up overcooked 2 the little bit cuz I use a frozen chicken breast but I got thumbs up from the fam and I'll make it again
Very easy 10 min…. done
Thanks
My chicken didn't look cooked and i found it bland. Needed way more cheese.
Not good..turned out like mush..no flavor even though poultry seasoning & extra cheese added..
On the one hand, this recipe lacks a lot of flavor. On the other hand, it gave me the base recipe to which I could add my own selection of herbs and spices. I'm new to pressure cooking, so I still need recipes to figure out how long I need to cook meals.
I used poultry spice and salt …. this is more of a broccoli rice and chicken soup….not too bad with extra spice….chicken was perfect…I also use the trivet….doubled the cheese too…
I used chicken tenders. A little more rice, chicken broth and cheese. Turned our great. Quick and easy
Made it! Used a little extra rice and broth. Cooked it a bit longer because the chicken abd broccoli were frozen. Turned out great
Used parboiled long grain rice instead and sliced brussel sprouts with quorn meatless chikun pieces since i am vegetarian. I also substituted not chick'n bouillon cubes (2) with 3 cups of water and a splash of olive oil with the rice and chikun mixture. Salt pepper, italian seasoning, a dash of nutritional yeast, and garlic powder! Rice didnt burn at all -adjusted for 8 people. Not mushy at all and super flavorful!
This was gross, Will not make again
I added old Bay seasoning, onion powder and garlic powder. Broccoli is very mushy, will probably make more adjustments to make this a better meal.
Kids And hubby loved it!! So easy to make
Came out very good. Will definitely be holding on to this recipe. I did double the amount of cheese and added a little extra salt and some onion powder.
The rice wasnt cooked all the way.
Very easy and good! I used Jasmine rice and aded my own seasonings. I I didn't have any broth on hand so Ibmade my own using bouillon cubes and it was quite tasty!
Hubby has asked for this recipe twice now!
I think its delicious, even though it was kinda mushy. I added 2 chicken bouillon cubes and some garlic salt to boost the flavor. Will def make again
Very good meal! This has become one of our favorites! Fast easy and delicious. I added half a white onion and 3 cloves of garlic for just a little more taste. Came out excellent!
Good and really easy and fast! Will be one of my "on the go" meal.
I put cream cheese instead of shredded cheese. Real creamy…
One of my favorites my mom use to make it when i was younger (in the oven). I also added a can of cream of chicken soup and a can or cheddar broccoli after it was done cooking. Not at all healthy but good comfort food.
Love this. I always add extra cheese. Tonight i used both chicken and veggie broth since i ran out. Tastes great! Also ive subbed the broccoli with brussle sprouts. Great taste and a bit more vegetables per bite. Overall, happy with the taste and turn out.
Cook for longer. About 5 mins longer and add about 1/2 cup more chicken broth. Rice burns at the beginning, be ready for that. Overall taste was pretty good.
Quick easy and good.
Easy , scaled to single serving in Mini Duo, add spices like dried hot pepper and garlic. Excellent and fast.
Ended with soggy rice and not much flavour. Was fully rejected by all children. What an epic fail.
So this recipe is a favorite in my house, with a few minor changes. I first saute' half an onion and about 2 cloves of garlic in a tablespoon of olive oil first. After they have sauteed, add the chicken broth, but increase the amount to 2.25 cups. Deglaze the bottom to avoid burn notice, then add the rest of the ingredients per the directions. The onion and garlic give it just the right amount of flavor, and don't add much time at all! Still quick and easy! (And YUMMY!)
My Husband and I love this recipe. Its a great meal thats filling!
Added onions, garlic, and chicken herb seasoning. Added .5 cup more broth. No burn notice because of the extra liquid. Also used 2.5 cups of cheese instead because a cup didn't even taste like cheese once mixed
Due to the current shortages at the supermarket, I was unable to get any chicken but I had some pork in the freezer. So I cut up the pork, chopped up a little bit of onion and sautéd that before putting everything else in the pot. It is now a family favorite.
This might be my favorite easy instant pot recipe. I never fully follow the directions. Ive used chicken breasts, added different seasoning and veggies, way more cheese than it asks for or just changed the type of cheese. I love how versitile the recipe is.
So good and supper quick and easy. Chicken comes out very tender.
So good and easy basically add ingredients cover and done. I would say if making for large family add more it as measured it was a small amount.
Delicious and easy way to get the kids to eat broccoli!!
This was pretty tasty and easy to make.
Add a smidge of hot sauce for some extra flavor. Also and and i like ours with a bit more cheese than the recipe says. But this dish is really good!
Reading all, I sauteed a half onion and 4 garlic cloves as well as chicken thighs cut 1″ in 1 1/2 tbls olive oil. I also sprayed the pan bottom and sides. Before the chicken was completely done I added salt, pepper, paprika and poultry seasoning, a lot due to the bland rice. I added 2 cups broth and a cup long grain rice with fresh broccoli florets. Pressured cooked 10 minutes on normal. It was done after I released the pressure. I stirred slowly in 2 cups Colby. It was good, but hubby didn't care for it much. Any leftovers were mush. Won't make it again. Total time from start to finish for me was an hour and 20 minutes from chopping, cleaning the chicken, etc.
I should have known better than to try this when it said to put the rice on the bottom and stir it, every single time I do that I get a burn notice. Plus the lack of seasoning was appalling. So, I did get a burn notice. Trying to salvage it now!
Used jasmine rice and added a clove of minced garlic!! Delicious
Made this but upped pressure time to 20 minutes since I used brown rice. Just made the broccoli separately and put it on top of the dish when serving. Had a 4-cheese mexican blend on hand. It was good.
